Generations of Integrity and Quality
The Davidson and Jones story began in 1918, when the firm of James A. Davidson, Contractor was
established. Mr. Davidson built a thriving construction company based upon the
principles of “forthright honesty and uncompromised craftsmanship”, ideals we
continue to embrace today.
In 1935, Mr. Davidson was joined by a young
apprentice carpenter, Seby B. Jones, who worked his way through the ranks to
foreman and superintendent before becoming James Davidson’s partner, and the Raleigh
powerhouse of Davidson and Jones was born.
The firm built hundreds of the Raleigh
area’s premier homes, from early “Craftsman” style bungalows to magnificent
Georgian Revival mansions, Mount Vernon
replicas to massive stone palaces, from graceful English tudors to modern California
contemporaries.
Over the following decades, Davidson and Jones
would build over one hundred and twenty five churches of many denominations, a
number of public schools, government buildings, office parks, warehouses,
manufacturing plants, hospitals, shopping malls, hotels, continuing care
facilities, and countless other projects. Local residents can still see the
work of the firm, now guided by Seby B. Jones’ son Robert L. “Roddy” Jones and
his sons, Robert and Russell, in the form of Crabtree Valley Mall, The Imperial
Center, Highwoods Office Park, Cary Town Center, The North Carolina Museum of
Natural Sciences, and hundreds of timeless structures which were carefully
crafted by two of Raleigh’s “Founding Fathers”.
Today, generations after building their first homes in the Raleigh
area, Davidson and Jones is poised to once again become a prime force in the
residential development marketplace. With exciting projects under construction in
the Triangle and Sandhills areas and new communities planned throughout the
region, the venerable firm has come full circle, back to its residential roots
while remaining one of America’s
finest commercial developers.
